JV for C929’s Engines

The United Engine Corporation (UEC, part of Rostec State Corporation) has signed a memorandum with the Chinese company AECC to jointly develop a turbine engine for the prospective C929 airliner.

The C929 is a prospective long range widebody aircraft. The memorandum covers UEC and AECC co-operating on research and competitive analysis, defining potential customers’ requirements to the engine and determining the engine’s appearance and basic technical parameters.

The UEC has previously started to develop the PD-35 engine for prospective wide-body long-haul aircraft. There is currently research and development under way under the PD-35 programme, using the scientific and technical groundwork carried out during the development of the new Russian PD-14 engine for the new MS-21-300.

The project aims to begin testing the engine in 2022 and certify it in 2027.
