The Dutch government has promised €20 million for the development of a new Fokker aircraft.
March 8: The Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs has promised €20 million for the development of a new Fokker aircraft, reports Dutch broadcaster Nederlandse Omroep Stichting.
Fokker went into liquidation in 1996 but its maintenance and servicing sections were bought by Stork Aerospace, now the Fokker Aerospace Group. However, a separate company, NG Aircraft, wants to restart production of the old Fokker 100 design but with news systems and engines - NG is a successor to Rekkof Aircraft (‘Fokker’ backwards), which has tried to get production going again since the original company folded.
Funding would come through the Dutch SenterNovem agency, which has a civil aviation department to fund creation of prototype aircraft. NG boss Rosen Jacobson says he hopes to use an existing Fokker 100 airframe as a concept demonstrator with the view to launch production in 2015. The funding proposal will have to be approved by the European Union.
