Aerospace MRO establishes new base at Kerrville Airport

Gulf Avionics began operations in January this year and provides MRO services within the region

Gulf Avionics – a full-service maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) provider – has established its base at Kerrville/Kerr County Airport which is located in Texas’ Hill Country region.

The company plans to serve aviation clients from the greater San Antonio area with plans to create around 50 avionics and aerospace jobs over the next five years.

The choice to move to the new base comes after a year-long selection process, resulting in the MRO opting to set up operations in one of the 7,000 square feet airport hangars at Kerrville.

Services provided by the company, including inspections and general maintenance, will be offered to hundreds of aircraft owners and operators within the region. The firm plans to expand its presence in Kerrville and the Austin-San Antonio Corridor which is home to 4.5 million people.

“This sector is growing incredibly fast, as leading aviation companies see numerous cost and workforce benefits, as well as our supply-chain network’s added value, to locating along this well-known corridor,” said Gil Salinas, executive director of the Kerr Economic Development Corporation (KEDC).

Kerrville Airport is a public use aviation base which includes a 6,000-foot runway and a 3,600-foot crosswind runway.

Welcoming the firm to the airport, Bill Backburn, Kerrville’s Mayor said: “It’s clear to us that companies are seriously looking at relocating to Kerr County, a rapidly growing commercial hub and home to manufacturers, medical facilities and the aerospace sector.”

Within the region, there are over 1,500 aircraft owners and operators – five times the market average for cities of a similar size to Kerrville.

“We are very excited to see Gulf Aviation expand to Kerrville,” said Mark Mosier, board president of the Kerrville/Kerr County Airport. “Their comprehensive approach to aircraft maintenance will offer a variety of services that support corporate and general aviation in many areas. This diversification will bring both jobs and valued clients to the Kerrville area.”

The growing aviation and aerospace presence in Kerrville revolves around the airport and commerce park, which both house Mooney International Corporation, Dugosh Aviation, the Hill Country Aviation Flight School, Aeromax USA and Air Evac EMS.
