Croatia begins Kiowa Warrior training

The Croatia Republic Ministry of Defence announced that the second and third groups of pilots began their advanced training courses on the Bell OH-58D Kiowa Warrior helicopter on May 9, 2019.

The pilots are from the Hrvatsko Ratno Zrakoplovstvo i Protuzracna Obrana’s (Croatian Armed Forces Aviation’s) Eskadrila Helikoptera (Helicopter Squadron), part of the 93rd Zrakoplovna Baza (Air Base) at Zadar-Zemunik.

The Croatian Ministry of Defence quoted a flight instructor and training administrator as saying: “All trainees have by now built their personal and professional status, however here they need to do their best to contribute to the team’s success. A scoring system for individual actions and procedures has been introduced to make the training even more interesting, and the initial outcome has exceeded our expectations, as proved by the analysis of each mission.”

The advanced training, provided by certified civilian contractors under US funding, will conclude with a livefiring exercise on the Eugen Kvaternik training range at Slunj in central Croatia.

Sixteen former United States Army OH-58Ds were transferred to Croatia between July and December 2016. The first five were delivered to Zadar-Zemunik on June 30, 2016.
