Korean Tanker

Airbus Defence and Space announced that the first green Airbus A330-200 for the Republic of Korea Air Force (RoKAF) arrived at its conversion facility at Getafe, near Madrid on May 19.

Aircraft EC-331 (msn 1787) is one of four aircraft being converted to Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) configuration for the RoKAF under a deal announced in June 2015. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2019.

The aircraft came off the civil assembly line in Toulouse and will be completed to the latest MRTT-E (Enhanced) configuration, according to Airbus DS’ A330 MRTT Korea Programme Manager Alvaro Irisarri.

Korea is the second MRTT customer in Asia, behind Singapore, which has an order for six aircraft. In the region, the Royal Australian Air Force operates the similar KC-30A variant, with five aircraft in service and two more to be delivered in 2017 and 2018.
