Flights to Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee will begin shortly, resuming connectivity to the English capital
London City Airport (LCY) has announced that its key regional routes, including flights to Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee, are to resume later this month.
The restoration of these services are incredibly important for the domestic connectivity links between Scotland and England’s capital.
Ahead of the summer months when international travel is hoped to restart, British Airways will begin to operate flights between London and Edinburgh from April 15, with the addition of Glasgow from May 17. Both routes will initially begin with two rotations per week, with plans to increase this during the summer months.
Alongside the new connections operated by British Airways, Loganair will resume the only direct flight between Dundee and the capital from April 16. This will also begin with two rotations per week, allowing Scottish travellers to make it to the city in less than two hours.
Travel restrictions between the two countries are slowly beginning to ease, therefore allowing travellers the opportunity to stay within the three Scottish cities, as well as locations nearby.
As the UK government’s roadmap to easing the lockdown is slowly taking affect, there is growing demand from the general public to travel between towns and cities within the region.
“With travel restrictions to ease further in the coming weeks, many people will be eager to embark on a well-earned holiday or staycation within the UK. The speed, safety and convenience of London City Airport means we are well placed to welcome back our passengers when they are ready to fly again,” said Anne Doyere, head of aviation at London City Airport.
A survey of 2,000 people – commissioned by LCY – found that the British public have a strong desire to travel once restrictions are lifted. Around 72% of flyers stated that they want to resume flying this summer, with the preference shifted to short haul destinations.
The airport now has an onsite testing centre that offers passengers different variations of arrival and departure tests.
Plans have been established for the launch of an online travel portal hosted by the London hub, which is expected to provide passengers with COVID-19 guidance and information about their travel destination.
