On November 12, Lufthansa began its initial test runs for comprehensive COVID-19 antigen rapid pre-fl ight tests for passengers travelling on selected routes between Munich and Hamburg.

In close co-operation with biotech company Centogene and MVZ Martinsried, the Medicover Group’s medical care centre, the airline is offering its customers the opportunity to be tested for COVID-19 free of charge prior to departure on two daily flights. Passengers who do not wish to be tested will be transferred to an alternative flight at no additional cost.

The first test fl ight with 100% negative tested passengers was LH2058, which departed Munich for Hamburg at 9.10am. The second daily fl ight on which all passengers were tested was LH2059 from Hamburg to Munich.

Customers received their test results within 30 to 60 minutes. Only if the result was negative were boarding passes activated and access to the gate granted. Alternatively, passengers could present a negative PCR test not older than 48 hours at departure.

Passengers incurred no extra costs related to the test. They were required only to register in advance and allow additional time before departure.

“With our test strategy, we are pursuing the goal of using the data obtained to gain important insights into the use of rapid tests,” said Christina Foerster, Lufthansa Group executive board member for customer, IT and corporate responsibility. “Successful testing of entire flights can be the key to revitalising international air traffic.”
